ALTRINCHAM manager Phil Parkinson is delighted to have signed Fleetwood Town winger Dan Mooney for an undisclosed fee.

Mooney is a product of the Fleetwood Town Academy and has made two first team appearances. Parkinson believes his new capture has a bright future ahead of him.

The 20-year-old has had loan spells at Ashton United and Chester during his time at the Lancashire League One side. He has also won four caps for Wales at under-21 level.

Mooney, who lives in Urmston, starred in Ashton United’s Northern Premier League Play-Off Final 2-0 win against Grantham Town during the season that Altrincham were champions and has been tracked by Alty since then.

Manager Phil Parkinson told the club’s official website: “Neil and I identified Dan as someone we wanted to bring to the club when we won promotion to the National League North.

“We just missed out as he signed a season long loan deal with Chester but we are delighted to sign him now.

“He ticks all of the boxes; he’s young, he's hungry with bags of potential and he’s only going to get better. We're confident that we can make him a better player, scoring and creating lots of goals for Altrincham and ultimately get him an even bigger move where he can progress even further.

“He's left footed and can play on both wings but I see him playing mainly on the right. He loves to cut in and get shots away, he has great dribbling ability and is tenacious.”

Parkinson added: He’s been at Fleetwood for five years and 20-23 is a vital period in any player’s development if they want to go on and make it as a full-time footballer in the Football League. He will have a better chance of doing that at Altrincham rather than playing for Fleetwood’s U23s.

“Dan needs to be one of our main men to get himself into the Football League, he’s one of a number of players who want to play in the Football League.

“We’ve also got a number of players who want to climb the leagues with Altrincham, so we’re all pulling in the same direction and Dan just adds to that mix.”
