THE winners of the first ‘Capturing Altrincham’ photography competition have been announced.
The competition, launched in early spring, saw more than 200 incredible photos of Altrincham, Bowdon and Hale, entered and displayed on social media.
The winners of the competition, hosted by local legal practice Maguire Family Law, were announced at an event held at the Con Club in Altrincham.
Local judges included keen photographer James Maguire, founder and director of Maguire Family Law, artist Karen Wroe from Art with a Heart, journalist Jan Disley, professional photographer Martin Hambleton and Radio Alty presenter Rodney Maxwell.
Part of their decision-making process included considering the ‘People’s Choice’ through the comments and engagements gathered from Maguire Family Law’s social media during the competition.
After hours of lively debate, the chosen winning images were announced.
Ryan Morrison took first place for his incredible deer photo and he wins £750. Steve Scrimgeour’s picture of Carrington Moss took second place and he wins £250. Bill Rigby’s shot of a craftsman at Altrincham Market was placed third, winning him dinner for two in Altrincham.
The final six images can be viewed in the Con Club throughout October and at Maguire Family Law’s website.
The awards evening included a charity raffle, thanks to donations from local businesses. This, along with contributions from those who attended, raised more than £1,000 which will be donated to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
James Maguire said: “We are delighted that Capturing Altrincham has been such a tremendous success. We created the competition to become more involved in our local community, and it certainly has done that.
“We were so impressed with the standard of entries; it has been tough to choose our final three. We plan to run this competition again next year, and we welcome any ideas and suggestions from the community so that we can make it bigger and better next year.
“I would like to thank our outstanding judges for graciously giving up their time and sharing their expertise. Also, we would like to thank local businesses that have kindly donated raffle prizes, enabling us to raise much-needed funds for the people of Ukraine.
“Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to enter. We very much look forward to launching Capturing Altrincham 2023 in the spring.”
